I was dreaming about something else; observing something that was fairly creepy and I was thinking, “Gee that’s really creepy”. Then suddenly I was back in my bed, in my dark room, and there was something on top of me.

It was all black, maybe shiny, catching what little light there was coming through the blinds of my bedroom window. It was right above me. I could feel that its hands were on the bed on either side of my shoulder. As it shifted its weight, the bed sank and rose and I moved underneath it.

I couldn’t see it face, but it was there, close to mine. It was whispering in a foreign language. I perceived it as an old language. It felt like it was cursing me, casting a spell or something. I moved my face around to look away, and it moved with me, keeping its face and mouth right in front of me. I could feel the heat of its presence on my face and I was breathing in it’s breath as it spoke.

I was frightened.

I made a noise, “UUNNH!” It’s so hard to make noise in dreams. The noise was a weak wail; so not very wail like (a fail wail (JOKE! This is serious)). I spent a lot of breath making that noise and had to breathe in fast and deep. I snorted/ growled/ made more noise on the breath in; enough to wake myself up.

The thing on top of me was gone. And I was alone in my bed, in my dark room.

IT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE AWAKE…

I was still in the “scene” of the nightmare. I continued to freak out and think irrationally.

What if it wasn’t a dream? What if it was a demon coming to collect on all those times I’ve tempted Satan? What if it was still in the room?

I had to get up and walk around. I went out to the computer and tweeted. I paused for a bit, checked the back up logs (more errors!?) and then went back to bed. I lay down on my side, pulled the blankets up over my head and then folded them back enough so my mouth was the only thing exposed.

Bought my second piece of original art today. Bid earlier this week, but the auctions ended today. It’s a 17x24 drawing of Catwoman by Cameron Stewart. He posted three such drawings in two days. I bid on the “all business” one, because I didn’t want cleavage on my wall. Curiously (or not), the other two, with cleavage, sold for more. And they both went to the same collector and reseller.

At first, I was pretty worried about spending that kinda money. Now I am very excited to get it.

Got a co-worker named O.R. He works in Minneapolis, in Fleet IT. Somehow, the two Xcel nuke plants make a ‘fleet’. He is the main IT support for the records department. And he shows flahes of incompetence several times a month. I was involved in the records department for about 18 months, ending earlier this year. But this story doesn’t really need that background information. His incompetence is greater than that.

Yesterday he sent an email asking a records department worker to “Copy the [Program] executable to //mtsp01/BatchFiles”. Firstly, he doesn’t understand that his customer is not computer savvy enough to automatically understand where to find the executable for a program is, or even that it’s likely the [program].exe file. Secondly he has slashes in his destination going the wrong way. As written, his destination doesn’t exist. The records worker called me to ask, “What am I supposed to do?” I took a quick screenshot of the error you get when you try his destination as written and asked her to reply to him simplyy with that screenshot. Totally snotty of me. But maybe only I realize that it’s snotty to reply like that. Anyway, she doesn’t hear anything back from him for 30 minutes. I start to feel bad. I bet he is wracking his tiny brain trying to figure out why she doesn’t have permissions to that destination folder. So I ask worker to reply again to him, “Did you mean \mtsp01\BatchFiles”. He quickly replies, “Yes please.”

Good time to mention, English is his second language. I wouldn’t hold it against him if he didn’t get so dickish when people don’t understand exactly what he’s saying/ writing. But that’s for another time.

So the worker calls me again to ask me what she should do. I keep her on the phone and talk her through the steps I perform to copy the file. Oh wait! He asked Monticello records to copy their [Program] executable to the same spot, and they already have! This of course means that if I copied my file up there, it would ask, “Do you want to replace [Program].exe?” So even if the worker had gotten that far, they would have called me right there to ask, “What do I do?”. You see, O.R. is collecting the executables because he wants to distribute the newest one to the sites. The newest one, not the latest version. Remember, he is incompetent. Back to the story, I simply rename the Prairie Island executable, adding a “PI_” prefix and give the records worker some words to send back to O.R.

I know it’s a small, small mistake. But O.R. does this all the time. Ugh.

Yeah, that was too much for twitter.

The Darkness #5 - Liked this issue more than expected. I actually forgot it was on my pull list. In this issue, we seem to be getting to the point of the story. A redemption for the main character, Jackie. Seems like it anyway. I’ve never read ‘The Darkness’ before writer Phil Hester, so it’s all new-ish to me. The ‘bad boy’ concept of old didn’t really appeal to me, so up-ending it, making something worse than Jackie for him to fight.. maybe I could get into that. I also like the art.

Wonder Woman #24 - OMG, yay! What comic wouldn’t look worse in comparison to this? Gail rocks. Chang rocks. And so does the colorist. Why doesn’t DC list colorists on the covers or their website solicits? Anyway, Wonder Woman does some negotiating in Hollywood, with hilarious results! Actually, the ‘results’, the last pages are just fine for a ‘eek! how will she get out of this!’ kinda thing, but everything before that. The trip to Themyscira to visit mom was sweet and the gorillas are hilarious. I don’t re-read comics very often. I re-read the gorilla scenes in this one. They made me laugh! As in, make noise! Hah!

I like comics.

Authority #2 - Big panels w/ tiny captions. I didn’t follow it very well. Li flew into the “soul storm” to go find some people, gets taken out by the storm, sees weird things then sees a bad guy and forgets about the people she went to find and then she tells Hawkesmore that things are dire! Lots I didn’t understand. And nothing I was interested in finding out. Dropped.

Buffy #18 - I still like this comic very much yes sir. I even like it in the monthly form.

Angel #11, #12 - This one is hard to love. Too often I am confused by the storytelling. I used to blame the art only, but I think it’s also the choices in the script. Because of that, I’m not getting greatly involved in the story being told.

House of Mystery #5 - I really want to like this more. Great art, great short story, but I just haven’t followed the book-end story that well. My fault, but I think I would like it better as longer, one offs. Moved to ‘wait for trade’ list.

Jonah Hex #35 - The current king of one offs at the Big Two. I read that they are doing a 6-parter soon. I hope the quality keeps. I do like how they did that previous 3-parter origin story. The stories were still one-offs, but all related to his origin. This issue has art by JJ Willams III. Nothing to complain about. Jonah Hex. Always brutal, bloody and satisfying.

Mall Security

I work at a mall. Our parking lot has one entrance and one exit. The exit or ‘egress’ road runs along side the parking lot for ~100 meters. Monday night, before dawn, a truck drove into our egress road and collided with a jersey barrier. It hit hard enough to move the jersey barrier. The driver abandoned the truck, presumably on foot.

Neither the incident nor the abandoned truck were noticed by security. A worker notified them around 6am that the truck was there.

Neat huh?
